I’ve been working with the great team at the Galvanize west Pearl location and the West End Plaza building in Boulder to set up a new view of Boulder.  Joel from Opensnow.com has also helped support launching the new cam.

Installation was not easy as we had to coordinate getting ethernet and power on the roof, fabricate a mount that did not penetrate the roof, get the camera set up and focused (still an issue) and then had to replace the camera hardware.  The cam will be added to the Boulder Flatiron cam site with timelapse but for now the image is available on this post.   Enjoy the new view!

The host of the original Boulder Flatiron cam in Louisville has recently rebuilt his home network.   The camera had been working fine but for some reason on Friday it stopped sending images.  It looks like this may take a visit to troubleshoot.

We’re close to launching a new cam in downtown Boulder.  It’s a nice change of perspective compared to the current cams in Louisville and Superior.   Here’s a preview of the new image.

The camera survived the endless rain of early September but has suffered some network issues in October. The cam is running on a new wireless bridge to the main wifi network. I’m still trying to diagnose why the picture seems to stop for periods every so often. Hopefully we can get it cleared up soon, but it’s working most of the time for now.

My youngest son and I got a self portrait and some shots of the new home while working on the cam one day.

A lot of people have written asking about the barns that have appeared in the webcam view.  The barns are part of a new home being built to the southwest of the webcam view.  The property has been under development for several years.  Back in 2009, a new fence was being built on the north side of the property.  The barns stand in a field that was once caught being mowed on the timelapse.   The property has been under construction since the first days of the Boulder Flatiron Cam, as seen with the construction container from early 2009.

Barns going up in April of 2013, the view won’t be the same but they are nice buildings.

I’ve recently found a home for a couple of webcams I found on eBay.  The best is this view from Superior to the northwest. http://boulderflatironcam.com/superiorcam   The cam may not be in a permanent home but for now it provides a nice view of the flatirons up to Long’s peak.  Thanks to Aweida Venture Partners for the terrific view.

For the past week or so the circuit to the webcam has been shorted out. It may have been from the heavy rains a couple weeks ago. The homeowner is back in town on Monday and we hope to get the circuit fixed shortly. Thanks to those of you who have asked what’s wrong with the camera.

A new home is being built to the left of the webcam image field of view.  The blue shipping container and other debris seen in the image are there to support the construction project.  The home is coming along slowly but may be finished this year.   The panorama below is the 180 degree view from the webcam location.  If Stardot or another webcam manufacturer came up with a wide angle hd webcam we would be able to get a lot more of the front range in the view.

Some cool images of the setting moon over Boulder from last week.  Check out the archives.

The daily time lapse movie is operational once again.   From May 26th to Dec 25th it was not working correctly.  Since the images are available for those dates at some point I hope to generate movies for all those dates.   At some point I would also love to change the movie format to non-flash so it’s compatible with more devices.

Here’s the time lapse from today http://www.boulderflatironcam.com/archive_and_timelapse.php?nextday=20120105&&type=TimeLapse

The camera is down for maintenance after it stopped responding a few days ago. Hopefully, the fix will be quick!

Update:  The camera seems to be working on another network.  I’ll get it back in place tomorrow and troubleshoot the network.

Update: 6/8:  Cleaned the camera and got the network troubles resolved.  The smudges in the picture must be dust on the actual camera sensor.  I didn’t take the lens off.  Maybe next time I have it down.   Happy viewing!
